Fried Sweet Dough Balls
ไข่นกกระทา
[ khai-nok-krata ]
Khai nok krata (ไข่นกกระทา) translates as quail’s egg – a telling moniker derived from the size and shape of these little cuties. Though it’s difficult to tell from the pictures, each of these fried balls is indeed the size of a quail’s egg.
Thai Spelling
This snack is sometimes also called Khanom Khai Nok Krata (ขนมไข่นกกระทา), where the word “khanom” (ขนม) means something like a “dessert or snack”.
